Last year I went to Costa Rica. It worked out because Rosh Hashanah flowed nicely into a weekend. This year, since the break was in the middle of the week and my principal made it clear that taking time off before or after a vacation was frowned upon, we made due with a day trip. We decided to take a bike trip. Jessica found a fantastic trail. Paved, which was necessary for our road bikes; outside the city, which was necessary so we could consider it a vacation; and somewhat separated from civilization, which was necessary for my sanity. We found it all in one little trail called North/South County Trail. It's a paved trail that starts in the Bronx north of Van Cortland Park and goes north for about 40 miles. Our former teacher friend Becca (former teacher, current friend) who also supports Jewish holidays joined us for the adventure.

Notice the beauty in the background.

The leaf in my hands represents all the bad in my life over the past year. As we crossed a bridge under which passed flowing water, we tossed out the bad. (It's a Rosh Hashanah tradition)

This is me and Becca on a lovely bridge over a lovely reservoir. It was lovely.

The beautiful bridge, me, Jessica, and Becca about to eat my ear.

Every time I go on a journey with my bike, I love it even more.

Happy and sore on Metro North heading home.
We rode about 40 miles from our house before we decided that it was probably time to find a train station before it got dark. We asked a guy at a gas station if there was a close one. There wasn't so we retraced our path for about 10 miles, got off the trail to find Ossining where we knew there would be a station. Every sign we saw said it was 2 miles away, like it kept its 2 mile distance no matter how far we actually rode. And it was straight up a 1/2 mile hill. That sucked, but the ride down was awesome. We approached the station (which is beside the Hudson) just as the sun was setting. It was perfect.

Sooooo jealous! Sounds/ looks like so much fun. At first I thought the leaf your were holding was some dead rodent that you had killed with your bike, and I thought, "Oh Cristi, we have so much to teach you about germs."
Excited for this weekend? We're so going to take Bumpass by storm. BOOM.
Looks like you had fun!! Remember when you tricked me into going rollerblading up Provo Canyon before I really knew how to use the brakes on my blades?? Yeah, crashing into that bush was fun. At least I made you laugh. But it scared those hikers. :)
